Senior executives from The Bank of Nevis Limited were among banking officials from across the Federation who participated in an important stakeholder consultation hosted by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
Members of the Bankers Association engaged in extensive discussions with the ECCB as part of preparations for the launch of the Office of Financial Conduct (OFC), which is scheduled to become operational in September 2026.
The consultation focused on strengthening the regulatory framework for financial consumer protection and promoting high standards of conduct within the banking sector. Presentations covered several key areas, including:
- Market conduct requirements for licensed financial institutions
- The ECCB’s functions and supervisory powers relating to market conduct
- An overview of the Financial Dispute Resolution Commission
- The Code of Conduct for Complaints Handling Procedures
- The Code of Conduct for Financial Consumer Access and Inclusion
The Office of Financial Conduct will be responsible for overseeing financial consumer protection and business conduct matters for institutions licensed under the Banking Act, helping to foster greater transparency, accountability, and confidence within the financial sector.
Representing The Bank of Nevis Limited at the consultation were Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Denrick Liburd, and other senior members of the Bank’s leadership team, including Marva Walwyn.
The Bank of Nevis remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the financial services sector and enhance the protection and experience of consumers throughout the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.
